Christine Würfel has more than 15 years of experience in the Austrian and international banking sector and is responsible for Group Sustainability Management at Raiffeisen Bank International AG (RBI), one of the leading commercial and investment banks in Austria and Central and Eastern Europe (CEE). She oversees ESG steering and governance across the banking group, including RBI’s commitment to the UNEP FI Principles for Responsible Banking, with a focus on climate, biodiversity, financial health, and human rights. She also leads strategic ESG stakeholder engagement, including dialogue with ESG rating agencies and broader society on sustainable development, and manages ESG disclosure for the bank’s sustainability statement in the annual report. A lawyer by training, she brings in-depth knowledge of the ESG regulatory framework and the European political decision-making process, building on previous experience at the European Parliament. She is also active as a member, speaker, academic lecturer, and author in several global and European ESG initiatives, forums, and publications.
